Please join us for the ISM-Oklahoma City March Dinner Meeting being held at Dolese Bros. Co.

Our guest speaker will be John Davis on Changing to Remain Unchanged. John will discuss the challenges of today’s market as companies are reworking the “old ways of doing things” and encourage individuals to take a self-disciplined approach to development and networking. For you and me, that means going through rightsizing of departments, taking on additional responsibilities, or transitioning from an obsolete position over to a new role. Our companies are changing because the environment requires change and if we fail to do the necessary legwork beforehand, we may find ourselves holding a ‘pink-slip’. This commitment to self-improvement is influential in our ability to remain valuable to our companies. The goal is simple: commit to self-development change so that our employment status remains unchanged.

John Davis currently works as an accountant for Devon Energy. For the past five years, he has focused primarily on revenue operations in the Barnett Shale (North Texas) and engaging in ad hoc projects across multiple areas of the company. Prior to joining Devon, John was employed by the State as a financial auditor first working in the State Agency Audit Division (SAAD) gaining experience with Federal/State OMB A-133 audits and then in the Performance Audit Division (PAD) where at the request of the Governor’s Office and State Congress, operational and performance audits were conducted to evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of State entities. Additionally, John has experience in the legal field and court room proceedings serving as a legal assistant to attorneys in areas of criminal defense, patent registry and protection, family law, and estates.

As an auditor, John attended a number of courses covering kinesics (body language), communication, fraud, ethics, deception detection and related behaviors, and change management. He continues to show strong support for developing skills in those areas by staying current on newly released books and case/research studies. He has formally taught classes on leadership styles, improved communication techniques, and continuous improvement.

John’s commitment to education includes earning a B.A in Social and Behavioral Studies from the University of Oklahoma (2006), a B.S in Accounting from the University of Central Oklahoma (2009), and a Master in Business Administration (MBA, 2011) and Master in Energy Management (MSEM, 2015) from Oklahoma City University.
